Charlotte Gautier Van Tour
Residence
Research and creation residency
from January 14 to February 14, 2021
with the participation of Luz Moreno
The approach
Charlotte Gautier Van Tour works to reveal invisible worlds and unveil the connections between ecosystems and beings. She explores the interdependence of living things. Each of her pieces can be perceived as an ecosystem, a metaphor for a symbiotic future for living things. Her works are organic, their shapes hybrid, simultaneously borrowing from cartography, geology, human anatomy, plants and animals. Her art considers itself a means of exploring the potentials of the living world.

Folds in the living world
Charlotte Gautier Van Tour’s residency will be a moment of research and creation devoted to the living world in the way that it overflows within us and through us, folds and unfolds, forming a skin, a membrane. Using symbiotic cultures of micro-organisms and fermentation techniques, the artist will create organic pieces like so many invitations to a peaceful relationship with the living and the micro-organisms of which we are made. Her “materials”, such as kombucha, agar-agar, or spirulina, become allies in the exploration of the living world’s metamorphic potentials. Throughout her residency, she will be accompanied by the artist and food experience designer Luz Moreno in order to achieve a restitution of residency in the form of sensitive, culinary performance that will summon all the senses. This performance acts as a prelude to a banquet of symbiosis, a forum for dialogue with the micro-beings that nurture us and that we nurture*, meaning our microbiota.
